CT RC&D awarded the 2026 Norma O’Leary Award for Agriculture to Assawaga Farm in recognition of its commitment to agricultural excellence, stewardship and contributions to Connecticut’s farming community.

Located in Putnam, Assawaga Farm is a certified organic vegetable farm that grows a diverse array of vegetables, herbs, flowers and fruits, with a special emphasis on Japanese varieties.

The name “Assawaga,” meaning “place between” in the Nipmuc language, reflects the farm’s location between the Assawaga River and Mary Brown Brook.

The Norma O’Leary Award for Agriculture recognizes individuals and organizations whose work demonstrates a strong commitment to Connecticut agriculture and its communities.
