Assawaga Farm

Assawaga Farm received an award to support compost production improvement by funding the purchase of an Avant e527 electric compact articulated loader and ASP aeration system including blower, pipe, fittings, and sensors. By replacing a gas-powered tractor with an electric tractor, the farm will reduce farm fuel needs, carbon emissions, and farm labor by approximately 220 hours per year. Additionally, Assawaga Farm is building an in-vessel aerated static pile system consisting of four bays with automatic aeration, a concrete slab foundation, and a roof. This will upgrade the scale and efficiency of the compost-making operation and increase compost production by roughly 300% per year, reduce fertilizer application by roughly 200 lbs per year, and increase or maintain current levels of organic matter in soil.
