Climate Smart Agriculture Grant
ON-FARM ENERGY PROJECTS
See how these farmers are conserving energy on Connecticut's agricultural farmlands, making the most of our precious resources.
Seacoast Mushrooms
Seacoast Mushrooms received an award to purchase and install a 155.5 kW roof- and ground-mount solar array to produce approximately 190,000 kWh a year and cover approximately 100% of the farm’s usage for all operations.
Oxen Hill Farm
Oxen Hill Farm received an award to purchase and install a 1,500-square-foot, 21.6 kW roof-mounted solar PV system that connects to the 200 AMP service in the building. The system interconnects to Eversource’s grid and is eligible for net metering under the NRES Netting Tariff. This system will produce approximately 25,980 kWh a year, supplying power to the walk-in refrigeration in packing barn, well to pump washing water, overhead lighting, and farm machinery.
Sprucedale Gardens
Sprucedale Gardens received an award to purchase and install a 21.6 kW ground-mounted (on Not Prime Farmland) DC Solar PV System which is eligible for the NRES netting and SAM policy. The system will produce approximately 28,000 kWh a year and cover approximately 100% of the farm’s usage on two meters, thereby supplying power to the ventilation fan motors in the greenhouse, two wells on the property for irrigation water, environmental control equipment, and lighting.
