CTRC&D Receives Conservation Innovation Grant from USDA

August 22, 2017

CTRC&D was just notified that we received a $75,000 USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service CIG grant for our Project objectives. The CIG, or Conservation Innovation Grant, will help fund the creation of a pilot project in Connecticut with two hubs or locations where purchased equipment will be housed by a hosting farm and used cooperatively by the farms in the surrounding area.

CTRC&D will implement over three years, an innovation for soil conservation using expert advice from NRCS’s Soil Health Initiative. CTRC&D is partnering with farmers to purchase, store, and rent out no-till planting equipment for use by small acreage farmers. CTRC&D has also had recent discussions with CT Northeast Organic Farming Association, CTNOFA, about partnering up on this project to introduce pollinators.

The grant will support a pilot project for no-till cover crops.
